Once again, the Middleton Good Neighbor Fest was a lot of fun! Facing Art was there helping Boy Scout Troop 940 raise some funds for scouting.

Christo and newcomer Kari Kessler were also painting faces over the weekend. All those pictured here were painted by John-Brian Paprock.

It is always a joy to develop new designs and to see the joy on the faces where art is!

This year Christopher was the adult Scout leader for Troop 940 in charge of the entire face painting station at Middleton's Good Neighbor Fest at the end of August 2010. Fighting For Ezra Fundraiser at MHS

Facing Art artists, Christopher and John-Brian, helped raise money for Fighting For Ezra Fundraiser at Middelton High School May 26 & 27, 2010 at the Year Book Distribution party. "Face / Body Painting" was one of 11 student sponsored tables. Christopher is a senior, graduating next month.

Alice in Wonderland - April 29-May 1, 2010

Honored to be invovled in the Middleton High School drama production of Alice in Wonderland. The director, Lynda Sharpe - a nationally recognized drama teacher and director, asked about designing animal faces and then painting them for the production. The production had a morning matinee on Thursday April 29, evening shows on Friday and Staurday nights (April 30 & May 1) as well as a Saturday afternoon matinee. Here are some of the faces painted. Some of the faces had prosthetic noses or beaks. The "human" faces were done with tradition make up.

So, from the corner of the "Green Room," John-Brian Paprock painted faces beginning two hours before each show. Christopher (who was the Lion in the production) assisted in the face painting painting the "lobster" design on dancers and the hedgehogs for a few performances.

These are production pictures, from rehearsal, backstage, morning matinee QnA and finale.

Good Job!

It is rare that someone can be painted by two different face painting artists the same event that same day, but this girl at the Albany had unusual requests. First, John-Brian painted her face as a fanged snake (see collage in entry for Albany PTO carnival). Then, she asked Christopher to paint a rose on her throat! Christopher took this photo of the first ever Facing Art mash-up.

Face Painting or Facing Art

When I was high school, I was the make up person for many dramatic art productions - mostly I was too short for major roles. During rehersals, I would go back stage and put on mime or clown make up and do slapstick behind the actors. It was fun. So for years, my halloween costume always included face painting or theatrical make up. This extended to my son's costumes during the "trick or treat" years.

More recently, I have volunteer at assist at the face painting booth at Middleton's Good Neighbor Fest as part of Troop 940 BSA. In 2005, I was able to spend more time at that station and got "artistic." I was honored to have a waiting line on the last day.

This year, my wife, Teresa - editor of Dane County Kids - made the strong spousal recommendation that I do some "face painting" at the Dane County Kids Expo. Since only a few photo images of my previous face painting endeavors, I made sure to bring a camera to the Expo.

With modern technology, I am able to bring some of the best images to the internet.

At the Expo, I was asked if I would do a party and several asked where I might be doing face painting in the future.

So far, only Good Neighbor Fest again this year. But, again with spousal encouragement, I am willing to try other venues and opportunities.

I have always enjoyed art and enjoy the possibilities of FACING ART with you.
